Employee Spotlight – Joe Deakin, CAD Technician
Joe Deakin forms an integral part of Ductbusters’ CAD department, which in turn is a vital component of the complete ductwork solutions that we provide.
We took the chance to catch up with Joe and learn more about his role and how his work benefits our clients.
Take us through a working day for you?
“As I am usually one of the first points of contact for quotation enquiries, my first job is to review the information and deadlines provided on these enquiries in order to prioritise the most urgent ones first. Once I have fully estimated the scope of works for these quotes, this information is then allocated to a surveyor with recommendations on what allowances and breakdowns should be made to carry out the works required. I also ensure that all our company accreditations are valid and up to date as well as completing PQQ’s for new projects via tender enquiries.”
“Beyond this, I do also help with general requests from surveyors when they are unable to get to the office.”
How does your role fit into the wider structure of Ductbusters’ operations?
“With a large number of our quotations being completed using ventilation layout drawings, much of these drawings are reviewed and measured by myself. Without reviewing and measuring these drawings, it’s extremely difficult to accurately quote for a project, so it’s important that this is always carried out where possible.”
What drew you to your role?
“Before working at Ductbusters, I had been working in some very labour-intensive jobs that I just wasn’t cut out for. My strength has always been with I.T., analysing and quick problem-solving. Once I had read the description for this job role, I knew it was something I wanted to get my teeth into. Since I started four years ago, my role has become much more varied and stimulating.”
How does your work help Ductbusters’ clients?
“While our clients do often know what services they require, they usually need some advice regarding the specific requirements for ventilation hygiene. I will always give them guidance in this area and liaise with clients to ensure that we provide them with the best service possible and make sure their needs are communicated to surveyors who will then look after these jobs.”
